The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), DO SOMETHING!

In today's world, the rule taught little boys seems to be "Never hit a woman! (unless she's Indian.)" The statistical numbers of violence committed by non-Native men against Native women on tribal lands is alarming. Due to the current laws, most of the non-Indian perpetrators of such crimes go unpunished.

According to reports, House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor, a Republican from Virginia, is holding up the passage of the Violence Against Women Act over one thing - a key protection for Native women. Because of where they live and because of who they are, the law does not protect many American Indian women. It seems some people are making this a fight between two political parties. This is not a Democratic versus Republican issue. This is an American issue and we should ALL care.

Do something to help protect American Indian women and children. Call your congressman today and demand they support the Violence Against Women Act, with the provisions for American Indian women included. You can also call Speaker Boehner’s office (202-225-0600) and House Majority Leader Cantor’s office (202-225-2815) to request the same. ALL women deserve protection.

Do something!

Those are my thoughts for today.
Thanks for reading.
