Call to Action!!!!!!!

If you haven't heard, the sentate for the state of Virginia has voted to give state recognition to two "Cherokee" tribes. The problem is, these groups are in no way, shape or form connected to the historical Cherokee Nation. I will write more about that in a few days, but first, I want to urge all Cherokees and others who are concerned about the state recognition of fraudulent tribes to either send emails, write or call the people below, letting them know your feelings about these groups being given state tribal recognition. This is not a done deal and it will still have to pass the VA house and then be signed by the governor before it is final. We have time to stop it so make phone calls or send emails!

To write, see below.

  2. It has happened in Vermont too, by it's Vermont-Concocted "Commission on Native American Affairs" using their hand-picked "Scholars" composed Anthropologists & Archaeologists thereby the VCNAA setting itself up to grant (the VCNAA is composed of members of these "Abenaki" groups") themselves approval for VT State "recognition" by the VT Legislature with their allied sleazy politicians, and subsequently signed by the VT Governor Peter Shumlin. No Genealogist(s), no Transparency, Open Process, and a total lack of Ethical Standards. Even the problematic nine "Criteria" created to make S.222/Act 107 "Abenaki" Recognition by VT State's Legislature is so loosely defined....

Now after the State of Tennessee tried to pull these stunts, and now the State of Virginia has done the same? Amazingly disgusting! This is plain ol' Genocide and yet another way of negating (watering down) the Treaty Laws of legitimate Native Communities, pure and simple. It is racist and it is not about Treaty "rights" Pretty soon, "everyone" will be an Indian, Native American or what have you. The very integrity of what it means to be a Cherokee, Lakota, Ojibway, Abenaki, Mik'Maq etc will be meaningless, because everyone with a 12th Great-Great-Great-Great Grand ancestor will be a 'member' of these State Recognized "Tribes" thereby seeking to benefit by way of soliciting Status, Grants, and so on.

Was these groups of alleged "Cherokees" genealogies, social and historical documents transparent and open to the public, as to these VA groups being connected to historical Cherokee Communities (not incorporation's)?

Or did these "Cherokee" groups that received "State Recognition" claim their contemporaneously concocted groups were "Sovereign Cherokee Nations"?

I bet these groups of so called "Cherokee's" in VA are merely created incorporation's with subsequently solicited memberships of wannabiak, just like it has been going on in Tennessee (like in Vermont and New Hampshire (the whole northeast btw)! Totally unethical to my thinking whats been going with State Recognition-creating "Tribes".

  3. In 2013 ....Two New groups in Virginia that claim Cherokee heritage are seeking state-recognition in that state’s General Assembly.

The Appalachian Cherokee Nation of Virginia and the United Cherokee Indian Tribe of Virginia, Inc., aka Buffalo Ridge Band of Cherokee, are seeking recognition through Virginia Senate Joint Resolution No. 300 (SJR 300

Rosalee “Sacred Sparrow” Evans, the group’s genealogist and a member of the Council, commented,“We don’t want any money. We’re not into that stuff. We just want to be recognized. Say that the Cherokee are here in Virginia. That’s all we ask. State recognize us like the other tribes..

however the Lumbee had also claimed to be Cherokee before congress for over 40 years with numerous bills and petitions before congress to be enrolled and recognized as Cherokee,

the lumbee even joined the NCAI as cherokee of Robeson County in 1940 so some see it as a way to get in just like the Lumbee did in north Carolina !!

The Lumbee past Bills to be recognized as Cherokee

    1. 1910(January24)Introduction of a Federal bill in the U.S.House of Representatives to change the tribes name from"Croatan to"Cherokee"at the request of the Croatans(lumbee)

    THE BILL DID NOT PASS

    2. 1913(July 10)Introduction of another federal bill in the U.S. Senate to"change the tribes name from Indians of Robeson County to"Cherokee Indians"of Robeson County"by the Lumbee

    THE BILL DID NOT PASS

    3. 1924(March 20)Introduction of a bill again in the U.S. House to change the tribal name to"Cherokee"by the lumbee

    THE BILL DID NOT PASS

4 . 1932(May 9).A federal bill was introduced in the U.S.Senate to"RECOGNIZE AND ENROLL the tribe as"Cherokee Indians"at the request of the lumbee(croatan)council.

    THE BILL DID NOT PASS
